Government issues notice to Meta again, summons for objectionable ad on Instagram

MeitY has once again issued a notice to social media company Meta. This is the second time in the last 3 days that Mark Zuckerberg’s company has been given a notice by the Government of India. Earlier, clarification was sought from Meta regarding WhatsApp username. Now the government has summoned the social media platform regarding some objectionable ads shared on Instagram.

According to government sources, some such ads have been shared on Meta’s social media platform Instagram, which contain objectionable content related to children (CSAM). The government has summoned Metro officials regarding this.

Government asked for clarification

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has directed MeitY officials to seek clarification from Meta regarding these objectionable ads being shared on Instagram and ask how these ads were approved and are being shared on the social media platform.

MeitY officials have asked the social media platform how such ads, which contain objectionable content regarding children, have been approved for uploading on Instagram. Regarding this, an answer has been sought from Mark Zuckerberg’s company and asked how the detection and prevention system installed by Meta is not working?

Meta removed objectionable ads

According to the report, Meta has removed these objectionable advertisements from Instagram. The company says that Meta always views objectionable materials related to children as a serious violation. For this, there is artificial intelligence, automated detection system as well as a dedicated review team. Not only this, the company has also partnered with NSMEC i.e. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Notice has been issued earlier also

The government has recently issued a notice to Meta regarding the new username feature of WhatsApp. The social media platform has recently rolled out this new feature of WhatsApp, in which users can reserve a username or user ID for themselves. Regarding this, the government has asked Meta that this feature can promote cyber fraud, identity theft and digital arrest. However, the company says that this feature is being rolled out for user privacy. The company has taken many security measures for this.
