Defending champions Jammu and Kashmir face Madhya Pradesh in their first match of Ranji Trophy 2026-27 at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar. In this match, J&K bowlers bowled brilliantly and bundled out the entire Madhya Pradesh team for just 196 runs on the first day. Earlier this year, Jammu and Kashmir team had created history by winning its first Ranji Trophy title. The best performance in this match was of fast bowler Rohit Sharma, who returned to the Ranji team after almost two years and took five wickets alone. This 32 year old bowler took 5 wickets for just 36 runs in 21.2 overs.

In this match being played in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir won the toss and decided to bowl first. Fast bowler Rohit Sharma had put Madhya Pradesh under pressure by taking two wickets in the beginning. However, after this, Madhya Pradesh captain Shubham Sharma and Chanchal Rathore took charge of the innings and added 65 runs for the fourth wicket. But Rohit broke this partnership by dismissing Chanchal. Captain Shubham Sharma stood firm from one end and along with Aryan Pandey added 51 runs. In the end, Rohit Sharma dismissed Madhya Pradesh’s entire innings at 196 runs by dismissing Shubham Sharma (79 runs), who was batting brilliantly.

Sunil Kumar also got 4 wickets

Left arm fast bowler Sunil Kumar also bowled brilliantly for the Jammu team and took 4 wickets, while Aaqib Nabi got 1 wicket. The entire Madhya Pradesh team was all out for 196 runs, in which their captain Shubham Sharma scored the highest score of 79 runs. In reply, by the end of the first day’s play, Jammu and Kashmir had scored 3 runs after losing 1 wicket. Kamran Iqbal and Vanshaj Sharma are batting for Jammu. Whereas Shubham Khajuria returned to the pavilion without opening his account in 10 balls.

Talking about Rohit Sharma, before this match against Madhya Pradesh, he had played a total of 22 first-class matches, in which he had taken 39 wickets at an average of 34.66. This is the second five-wicket haul of his career in first-class cricket. Apart from this, Rohit has also played 8 List-A matches and 5 T20 matches, in which he has taken a total of 8 wickets in both the formats. However, he has not got a single wicket in T20 cricket yet. Apart from this, earlier this month he was also selected in Jammu and Kashmir’s squad for the Irani Cup, but he was not a part of the playing eleven. In that match, Rest of India won by 167 runs.
