The Indian cricket team will tour New Zealand this month. The tour will start with a 5-match T20I series. After this, a 5-match ODI series will be played. In the ODI series, the New Zealand team will take the field against India wearing a specially designed jersey. Through this jersey, 100 years of sports relations between the two countries will be celebrated. Let us tell you, in the year 1926, the Indian Army hockey team visited New Zealand for the first time and brought the players and communities together.

The special jersey of the New Zealand team has been designed in such a way that it will reflect the Maori culture of New Zealand and Indian art traditions together. New Zealand Cricket has named this special jersey as Kotahitanga ODI Shirt. Its design reflects the shared history, cultural connect and mutual respect of both the countries. In the upcoming ODI series between India and New Zealand, the Kiwi team will play wearing this limited edition jersey.

Three artists prepared the design together

Three artists have contributed in preparing this special jersey, which includes New Zealand artist Ben Thomson, Gujarat’s Shiv Narandas and Jai Pancha. Taking inspiration from their respective cultural traditions, all three created a design that reflects the long-standing relationship between the two countries.

Thomson has used the traditional kowhaiwhai patterns of Maori art in the jersey. The design also honors the contributions of those who played a role in strengthening the relationship between India and New Zealand. At the same time, Shiv Narandas and Jai Pancha have included three special symbols related to Indian art in the jersey. These include the lotus, India’s national flower, repeating patterns inspired by Indian architecture, and mandalas.

India’s New Zealand tour begins from October 22

New Zealand Cricket’s Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer Glenn Critchley expressed happiness over this initiative. He said that we are very happy with this design. The artists have created a beautiful balance between distinctive Māori and Indian designs, reflecting the relationship between the two countries. Ben Thomson, who prepared the design, said that the main idea of this entire project was unity. According to him, the design of the jersey completely expresses this feeling. India’s tour of New Zealand is to start from October 22. Through this special jersey, along with cricket, the common cultural heritage and friendship of both the countries will also be in discussion in the ODI series.
