There is great news for Indian shooting from Lonato of Italy. Asian Championship gold medalist Neeru Dhanda created history by winning the gold medal in the women’s trap event at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup. She has become the first Indian woman to win gold in trap event in this competition.
26 year old Neeru Dhanda performed brilliantly in the final, hitting 27 out of 30 targets accurately and won the gold medal. This is the biggest international title of his career so far. Before this, she had won gold medal in the Asian Championship last year and bronze medal in the mixed team event of ISSF World Cup this year. In the final, Neeru left behind many great shooters of the world. Former world champion Carole Cormenier of France won the silver medal with 25 points, while host Italy’s Erica Sessa won the bronze medal.
Remained number-1 in qualification also
Neeru maintained his dominance right from the qualification round. He scored a perfect score of 75 out of 75 in the first three rounds. He missed only four targets in the fourth and fifth rounds and qualified for the finals by finishing on top with 121 points out of 125. The level of competition was extremely tough. Two shooters scored 120 points while five other players competed in a shoot-off to make the finals. India’s second shooter Manisha Keer finished 10th with 117 points out of 125 and missed out on a place in the finals. Whereas Ashima Ahlawat stood jointly at 80th position among 106 participants.
