Second seed Alexander Zverev of Germany won his first Grand Slam by defeating 14th seed Flavio Coboli in the final of the French Open played on June 7. Zverev defeated Koboli 6–1, 4–6, 6–4, 6–7, and 6–1 in the final to capture the title. Zverev had earlier been runner-up in the Australian Open and US Open. This was the second French Open final of Zverev’s career, here he was successful in winning.
Flavio Coboli made a lot of mistakes in the first set.
In the first set of the match, young Italian player Flavio Coboli looked very weak and made many consecutive mistakes, due to which Alexander Zverev got the advantage. However, Koboli did not give up and made a brilliant comeback to win the second set 6-4. After this he lost the third set, but in the fourth set he gave a tremendous fight and kept the match exciting by winning the match in tiebreak. However, in the fifth set, Zverev dominated Koboli from the beginning. Zverev created history by winning the fifth set by a margin of 6-1.
Zverev had lost the Grand Slam finals thrice
Before winning the French Open 2026, Alexander Zverev had managed to reach the Grand Slam finals thrice but had to face defeat there. First of all, he lost the US Open final in 2020 to Dominic Thiem in a tough 5-set match. After this, in the 2024 French Open final, he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in a 5-set match. Then in the final of the 2025 Australian Open, Jannik Sinner defeated him in straight sets.
How much prize money did Zverev get?
In the French Open 2026 tennis tournament, equal prize money has been given to the winners of both men’s and women’s categories. The women’s singles title was won by young Russian player Mira Andreeva, who received 28 lakh euros (about Rs 30.80 crore) as a prize. At the same time, Alexander Zverev of Germany won the men’s singles title by defeating Flavio Coboli of Italy, hence he also got Rs 30.80 crore as prize. This prize money received in this tennis tournament is about Rs 10 crore more than the reward received by the team that wins the world’s biggest cricket league i.e. IPL. RCB had received Rs 20 crore after winning the IPL 2026 title.
