Jio Platforms IPO has written a new chapter in the history of the Indian primary market. There was such a frenzy and craze among investors regarding the IPO of Reliance Jio that it has broken all the old records at the global level. Including public and anchor bids, a total record-breaking bid of ₹ 7.4 lakh crore has been received for this IPO. The total amount bid in this one IPO has proved to be bigger than the annual budget of 26 states of India.
IPO alone overshadows total budget of 26 states
If we compare the total bid value of Jio Platforms’ IPO (₹7.4 lakh crore) with the total budget expenditure of many big states of the country for the financial year 2026-27, then the figures are very shocking:
- Rajasthan:Budget expenditure ₹6.11 lakh crore
- Tamil Nadu:Budget expenditure ₹5.25 lakh crore
- Karnataka:Budget expenditure ₹4.48 lakh crore
- west bengal:Budget expenditure ₹4.39 lakh crore
- Madhya Pradesh:Budget expenditure ₹4.23 lakh crore
This comparison clearly shows that the investment amount in Jio’s IPO is much more than the total budget expenditure of the country’s largest states.
1.39 crore applications
Jio IPO not only brought in money, but also created a new global record in terms of applications. A total of 1.39 crore applications have been received for this IPO. This number is approximately 1.5 times (1.5x) more than the total population of London, the capital of Britain. At the same time, out of total 193 member countries of the United Nations (UN), the total population of 118 countries is less than 1.39 crore. If all these 1.39 crore applicants are taken together and considered as a separate country, then it would become the 75th most populous country in the world based on the number of applicants for Jio IPO.
Historic new record in Indian stock market
Jio Platforms’ IPO has proved that the Indian stock market and the potential of retail investors now stands at the forefront of the global market. Such a huge bid and crores of applications received has created a new history on Dalal Street, whose example will be set for many decades to come.
