There is a heated exchange between the ruling party and the opposition regarding Prashant Bhushan’s statement about regime change. On the opposition’s protests in Delhi, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “Understanding that they cannot win the elections because the public will not support them, they are trying to spread anarchy in the country and divide the country. Such things have been going on since the incidents in Bangladesh. Efforts are being made to instigate people by spreading confusion, lies and rumours. I have never seen a person who lies as much as Rahul Gandhi. The rest are just pawns; whatever their name, Whatever they may be, they are all the same.”

Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “A handful of people want to spread anarchy and disturb peace in the country. But this is India, not Bangladesh. Here we respect the ideals of Lord Ram and the teachings of Lord Krishna on state-governance. Such attempts will not succeed. The country will completely reject these negative and useless people.”

Congress leader replied

Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar says, “What Prashant Bhushan said was not wrong; change of power is necessary in view of issues like rising inflation, debt, unemployment, farmer suicides and safety of girls. Why is the government afraid of protests and movements? Is it afraid that the youth of the country will unite and come out on the streets, due to which its hold on power will be in danger? The more you suppress these movements, the more they will increase, and the government will have to face heavy criticism from the public. There will be anger. Any problem can be solved through dialogue and discussion, and the government should understand this.”

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi said
Responding to the opposition’s demand for change of power, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said, “India is a democratic country. Democracy did not start here with the Congress Party or modern India after independence. India is a democratic nation by its very nature and the people here have full faith in democracy. India cannot go the way of countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh or Nepal.”

“AISA chief Neha Bora said Bangladesh has inspired us. What actually happened there? First, an elected government was toppled and the then Prime Minister was forced to flee the country. After this, a large number of minority Hindus were targeted and murdered. Do you want the same model here? Yet, Rahul Gandhi is associated with them. If you want to contest elections and get the post of Prime Minister or Chief Minister, you have to work. You have to work hard. It will happen…”

The public wants change in power, not Congress – Kapil Sibal
Rajya Sabha member Kapil Sibal on Saturday hit back at Rajnath Singh’s allegations and said that the people want change of power, not the Congress. Now the time has come for this government to go. It is the right of the citizens to protest peacefully and if the public feels that the policies of the government are wrong and their views are not being heard in the Parliament, then people should have the option to register a protest.
