New Delhi/Mumbai: Protests were held from Delhi to Mumbai on Friday against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. In Delhi, organizations associated with Aam Aadmi Party, Congress and Left parties had called for separate demonstrations. Cockroach Janata Party demonstrated in Mumbai. In Delhi, police had increased security around Jantar Mantar. Barricading was done to stop the protesters and entry-exit was closed in many metro stations. Let us tell you that apart from these protests, petitions have also been filed against Gyanesh Kumar in the Supreme Court.
AAP leaders stopped before going to Jantar Mantar
Aam Aadmi Party leaders and workers proceeded towards Jantar Mantar, but the police stopped them on the way. After this some workers started trying to cross the barricading. As the situation worsened, the police detained many AAP leaders including Saurabh Bhardwaj. Many protesters including AAP leaders Atishi and Sanjay Singh were also detained in the action by Delhi Police. There have been reports of hundreds of people from various organizations being detained.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi tried to reach Jantar Mantar from North Avenue. However, due to the presence of police, they too could not proceed and were taken into custody. Several levels of barricading had already been done around Jantar Mantar. Police had deployed a large number of security personnel to prevent the protesters from moving beyond the designated area.
Youth Congress workers clash with police
After this the Youth Congress workers proceeded towards the Election Commission office. The police stopped them on the way by putting up barricades. After this there was a scuffle between the protesters and the police. When they were not allowed to go further, the Youth Congress workers sat there and started raising slogans against Gyanesh Kumar. The police tried to remove them from there, after which the situation remained tense for some time.
Protestors divided into small groups
In Delhi, protesters belonging to AAP, Left parties and Youth Congress were seen in small groups at different places. Some people demonstrated on the roadside, while some protesters sat on the road. Due to this, traffic was affected at some places. The police had to struggle to remove the protesters present at different places and open the way. Heavy police presence remained around Jantar Mantar throughout the day.
AAP leader said, ‘Protest will continue till resignation’
Aam Aadmi Party leaders said that they will not back down from demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He says that his protest will continue until Gyanesh Kumar resigns. During the demonstration in Delhi, many organizations raised slogans against the Election Commission and Gyanesh Kumar. The protesters were also raising issues related to voter list and election process.
RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha reached Jantar Mantar
RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha also reached Jantar Mantar to support the protesters. He was questioned about the number of protesters present there. When he was asked why people did not gather in large numbers despite his appeal, instead of giving a direct answer to this question, he talked about the demonstration and the demand for resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. After this Manoj Jha left from there.
CJP’s demonstration against Gyanesh in Mumbai also
Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) demonstrated against Gyanesh Kumar in Mumbai. The demonstration started at Shivaji Park at 4 pm. CJP founder Abhijit Deepke has announced a nationwide movement demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. Supporters of the organization arrived at the CJP demonstration wearing T-shirts with the picture of Mahatma Gandhi. The founding members of the organization said that they will not back down until their demands are met. There was a strong police presence during this demonstration in Mumbai.
Film stars were also present, supporting Raj Thackeray
Some people associated with the film and art world also expressed their support in the demonstration. Stars like Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Vishal Bhardwaj and Vishal Dadlani joined the protest. CJP’s Mumbai protest also received support from Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray. Both the leaders have called for a separate demonstration against Gyanesh Kumar on October 4. Uddhav Thackeray’s party workers also reached Shivaji Park during Friday’s CJP protest. CJP has said that its movement will be taken to other cities also and the demand for resignation of Gyanesh Kumar will continue.
Mamta Banerjee talked about supporting CJP
Amidst the protests in Delhi and Mumbai, there was a political reaction on this issue in West Bengal also. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who reached Kolkata from Delhi, said that her party will fully support the CJP movement. Mamta Banerjee said that everyone should raise voice against Gyanesh Kumar. He accused Gyanesh Kumar of killing democracy. Mamata Banerjee said in English that she supports the demonstrations of CJP and other youth. He also said that the atrocities happening in the country should be stopped at all costs.
