How many illegal foreigners have been expelled from the state from Assam. This information has come to light. The Assam government told the Assembly on Monday that more than 1.72 lakh illegal foreigners have been identified so far under the provisions of the Assam Accord. Of these, 31,789 people have been sent back. Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma gave this written answer to the question of Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) MLA Deeptimayi Chaudhary.

The CM did not tell which country the citizens were from.

Speaking in the Assembly, CM Sharma said that a total of 1,72,673 foreigners living illegally in Assam have been identified. He said that the state government has so far been successful in deporting 31,789 illegal foreigners from Assam. However, he did not tell which countries these people were citizens of.

470 people were deported

CM Sharma said that of these, 470 people were deported, 29,663 were sent back across the border, 1,572 people were sent back as per the instructions of the Union Home Ministry and 84 people were expelled.

Cases of other suspected illegal foreigners pending in court

Himanta Vishwa Sharma, who is also holding the charge of the state Home Department, said that apart from this, cases of 73,759 other suspected illegal foreigners are pending in Foreigners (Civil) Tribunals. According to the Assam Accord, all foreigners who came to Assam on or after March 25, 1971, are to be identified. Their names are to be removed from the voter list and necessary steps will be taken to deport them.

Some foreign nationals were kept in the camp

The Chief Minister also informed that at present, 174 foreign nationals are kept in the transit camp located at Goalpara. Transit camps were earlier called detention centres.

Big issue of illegal infiltrators in Assam

Let us tell you that the issue of illegal infiltration in Assam has been very sensitive from political, social and security point of view for many decades. This mainly concerns people coming into India allegedly illegally from neighboring Bangladesh. The state government and the central government say that illegal migration has affected Assam’s demography, resources and internal security.
