Two women got trapped in the Salunki river due to flash flood in Odisha’s Boudh district on Sunday. For about four hours both the women remained stranded on a small part amidst the strong current. It was a matter of relief that after a long rescue operation, both of them were taken out safely.
Women were collecting burnt wood
The incident occurred near Lakshmipadar village of Baghiyapara Panchayat in Boudh district. According to the information, both the women had gone to the river bank and the middle part of the river to collect firewood. During this time suddenly the water level of Salunki river started increasing rapidly. Within no time, the strong current surrounded them from all sides and both the women got stuck in the middle of the river.
Fire and emergency service was called
As soon as information about the incident was received, the people of the village reached the spot. The local people tried their level best to get the women out, but the strong current and rising water of the river became a major hindrance in their efforts. Seeing the situation becoming increasingly serious, the villagers immediately informed the Fire and Emergency Service.
Rescue operation lasted for several hours
As soon as the information was received, the team of Boudh Fire Station immediately reached the spot and started the rescue operation. Despite the strong current in the river and difficult conditions, the rescue team tried to reach the women with utmost caution. The rescue team had to face difficult conditions for several hours continuously.
Women did not suffer any harm
After about four hours of continuous hard work, the fire service team was successful in taking both the women out safely. Complete caution was taken during the rescue operation so that the women did not suffer any harm.
A major accident was averted
The good thing is that both the women were rescued safely and were not injured. A major accident was averted due to the timely rescue operation and the promptness of the Fire and Emergency Service.
