Odisha A serious incident like mob lynching has come to light in Rayagada district, where a woman and a man NGO worker were brutally beaten by a mob of villagers on the suspicion of being child lifters. The incident took place on June 16 in Intaliguda village of Kalyansinghpur block of Rayagada district. The victim boy and girl work with an NGO in Kandhamal district. Both were going to Thuamul Rampur in Kalahandi district, but it is said that due to Google Maps showing wrong route, they reached Kalyansinghpur. After reaching the village, both of them gave biscuits to the children playing there. During this time some villagers became suspicious of him. Since both were talking in Hindi and the local people did not recognize them, a rumor spread that they were child lifters.

The crowd did not agree even after showing the identity card

The victims also showed identity cards claiming to be NGO employees, but the crowd did not believe them. It is alleged that after this both of them were attacked. Apart from assault, there have also been allegations of misbehavior and humiliating behavior with the woman. In the viral video of the incident, it can be seen how brutally the crowd is beating the young man and the girl. Even an attempt was made to disrobe the girl. After the incident, the police team reached the spot and saved both of them from the crowd and took them to the hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Attempt to tear woman’s clothes

Narrating her ordeal, the female victim said that she had shown her identity card, but no one listened to her. He told that the mob beat him badly, pulled his hair, tore his clothes and some people also behaved inappropriately with him. The woman said that some people were also trying to save them, but the anger of the crowd was so much that the situation had gone out of control.

Police arrested 16 people

Rayagada Police has so far arrested 16 people in this case. According to the police, some of the main accused are also among those arrested. Investigation is ongoing to identify and arrest other suspects. Rayagada Superintendent of Police Raj Prasad said that a criminal case has been registered in the matter under several sections. The arrested accused are being interrogated and the video footage and statements of witnesses related to the incident are being examined. The Superintendent of Police reached the hospital and also met the injured victims and took information about the entire matter. (Input- Shubham Kumar)
