Waqf Board inspector arrested red handed while taking bribe, had asked for Rs 10,000 in return for work

Hyderabad: In Telangana, the Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested an inspector of Waqf Board red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000. It is alleged that the officer had demanded a bribe in exchange for sending a report related to registering the property of a mosque in the records of the Waqf Board. ACB has recovered the bribe amount from the accused. According to the statement issued by ACB, the Waqf Board Inspector posted in Nalgonda district had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. This money was demanded in exchange for sending a factual report to the CEO of Hyderabad-based Waqf Board.

The entire money recovered from the possession of the accused

The case pertained to an application submitted by the complainant in February 2025. The application sought to register the property of Jame Masjid Abubakar Siddique Rahmatullah Alai located at Peddavoora in Nalgonda district in the records of the Waqf Board. In this case, the inspector allegedly demanded bribe for sending the report. Taking action, ACB caught the accused officer while taking bribe and recovered the entire money from his possession. The agency said that the accused will be detained and arrested and will be produced before the special court for ACB cases in Hyderabad.

Another bribe taking officer caught

Meanwhile, the ACB has also taken action in another corruption case in Telangana. A range officer of the forest department in Jagityal district has been arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 80 thousand. According to the ACB, the accused officer had demanded bribe from the complainant in exchange for permission to cut 120 teak trees and approval of their transportation permit. The officer had initially demanded Rs 2 lakh, out of which the complainant had paid Rs 1 lakh in cash on May 13.

Money found in officer’s desk drawer

Later, on completion of the government work and on the request of the complainant, the officer reduced the remaining bribe amount to Rs 80 thousand. On Thursday, he accepted this amount, after which ACB caught him red handed. ACB said that the bribe amount was recovered from the desk drawer of the accused officer. According to the agency, the officer misused and dishonestly used his position to gain undue advantage. At present both these cases are being investigated in detail.
