Guwahati/Thiruvananthapuram/Puducherry: Voters participated enthusiastically in the single phase of voting held on Thursday for the assembly elections in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry. According to the Election Commission data till 9:30 pm, Puducherry recorded the highest voting percentage of 89.87 percent. After this, 85.65 percent voting took place in Assam and 78.24 percent voting in Kerala. Voting was conducted peacefully in all three states and a large number of people exercised their franchise. Counting of votes in all three states will take place on May 4.
Chief Ministers of all three states cast their votes
Voting took place for 126 seats in Assam, 140 in Kerala and 30 in Puducherry. During this period, many big leaders also cast their votes early in the morning. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy also voted. The special thing was that Rangaswami, following his old tradition, reached the polling station on a motorcycle. After the voting was over, EVM and VVPAT machines were sealed at all the booths. In all three states, there has been more voting than in the last assembly elections.
Fate of 883 candidates decided in Kerala
Over 2.6 crore voters in Kerala decided the fate of 883 candidates on 140 seats. A total of 2,69,53,644 voters were registered in the state, which includes 1,38,27,319 women, 1,31,26,048 men and 277 third gender voters. There were also 4,24,518 youth voters in the 18-19 age group and 2,04,608 voters above 85 years of age. 30,471 polling stations were created for safe voting. Here a tough contest can be seen between UDF, Left led LDF and BJP.
722 candidates are in the fray in Assam
More than 2.5 crore voters cast their ballot for the 126-member assembly in Assam, where 722 candidates are in the fray. A total of 2,50,54,463 voters include 1,25,31,552 men, 1,25,22,593 women and 318 transgender voters. The main contest here is believed to be between the BJP led NDA and the Congress alliance. During the election campaign, sharp statements were seen between both the groups.
Triangular contest likely in Puducherry
In Puducherry, 10,14,070 voters were eligible to cast their votes for 30 seats. These include 5,39,125 women, 4,74,788 men and 157 third gender voters. 24,156 young voters in the age group of 18-19 also became a part of this election. Here, the ruling NDA (All India NR Congress and BJP) is being challenged by the Congress-DMK alliance, while actor Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is trying to make the contest triangular.
