Why is Harsil special?
Harsil is a very beautiful and less crowded hill station located in Uttarkashi district. The temperature here remains quite pleasant even in summer, which provides instant relief from the scorching heat of Delhi. If you go to nearby high altitude areas, you may get a chance to see snow at many places. Keep this in mind that if you are going here in summer, then carry cool clothes because the temperature here is very low.
What to see in Harsil?
- Bhagirathi River: The mainstay of Harsil’s beauty is the Bhagirathi River. Sitting amidst the dense pine forests on its banks and listening to the gurgling sound of the river is a very relaxing experience.
- Dharali village: Situated just 3 km away from Harsil, this small and beautiful village is famous for its apple orchards and picturesque views of the Himalayas. The snow covered peaks are clearly visible from here.
- Mukhwa Temple: Mukhwa Temple is situated in Mukhwa village near Harsil. This temple is considered to be the winter residence of Mother Ganga, where the idol of Mother Ganga is installed after the doors of Gangotri Dham are closed in winter.
- apple orchards: Harsil is famous all over India for its juicy and tasty apples. Walking in the apple orchards here during October-November and tasting fresh apples can be a magical experience.
- Sattal: Sattal can be reached after a climb of about 3 km from Dharali. It is a beautiful group of seven natural lakes, surrounded by forests on all sides.
- Gartang Street: If you love adventure, check out the historic Gartang Gali trek. It was once a trade route with Tibet and has now been opened to tourists.
How to reach?
Harsil can be reached by road from Delhi. First reach Dehradun or Rishikesh, then from there you can go to Harsil via Uttarkashi. Apart from bus, you can also reach Hasil by train. First reach Haridwar and then take a bus or cab from there.
