His very first directorial film achieved tremendous success and was awarded the National Award for ‘Best Feature Film’.

The film ‘Too Late’, directed by Chelian, featured actors like Dharun Bala, Sheela Rajkumar, Ravi Subramaniam and Adhira Pandilakshmi in lead roles. The film is based on the struggle of a middle-class three-member family, who have to wander from door to door in search of a new house on rent after being given an ultimatum by the landlady to vacate the house.
