Shimla: Heavy rains are wreaking havoc in Himachal Pradesh. Due to continuous torrential rains, all government and private educational institutions and Anganwadi centers were kept closed in Sirmaur and Solan districts of the state on Friday. According to the latest forecast of India Meteorological Center (IMD) Shimla, there will be light to moderate rain in many areas of the state from July 10 to 15, while there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places. IMD has also warned of incidents like landslides, flash floods, uprooting of trees and blocking of roads in many parts of the state.

One person has died in Kullu due to heavy rains. 124 roads were closed in the state, 442 transformers were stalled and 19 drinking water schemes were affected. Torrential monsoon rains have wreaked havoc in many parts of Sirmaur district, including the Kala Amb industrial area, where life has been badly affected due to waterlogging and schools have had to be closed. Pachchad in Sirmaur district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 207 mm, followed by Nahan at 158.5 mm, Dhaula Kuan at 70 mm and Paonta Sahib at 62.8 mm.

2 vehicles damaged due to wall collapse in Shimla
Capital due to rain Shimla Normal life was also affected and 27 roads were closed for vehicular movement in Shimla district. A wall in front of a building collapsed in the Vikasnagar area of the city. Two vehicles parked on the roadside were damaged due to the wall collapse. Officials said that due to excessive rains in Sunni area of Shimla district, the security wall of a house in Brandli village was damaged and water entered the premises of the Industrial Training Institute, from where work is now underway to evacuate people safely.
Rivers and drains in spate in Sirmaur
The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain in Sirmaur district during the next three to four hours. Officials said that landslides have occurred at many places in rural areas of Nahan district. Major rivers of Sirmaur district, Tons, Yamuna, Bata, Giri and Markanda and dozens of small drains are in spate. The administration has advised people to stay away from these rivers and drains.

34 roads remained closed in the district
The rain has also affected the roads of the district. According to the Public Works Department (PWD), a total of 34 roads remained closed in the district. These include 21 roads in Shillai sub-division, eight in Sangrah, four in Nahan and one in Rajgarh.
All schools and Anganwadi centers closed in Sirmaur
An order to close educational institutions was issued late Thursday night in Paonta sub-division of Sirmaur district. After this, in the early hours of Friday, the Sub Divisional Officers (SDM) of Nahan, Sangrah, Pachhad and Rajgarh sub-divisions also issued separate orders. In view of the IMD issuing an alert of heavy rain and thunder during the day, SDM Dwij Goyal of Paonta in Sirmaur district declared holiday in all government and private educational institutions of the sub-division on Friday. This decision was taken keeping in mind the safety of the students and exercising the powers conferred under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. However, it has been clarified in the order that all teaching and non-teaching staff will remain present in their respective institutions and they have not been exempted from duty.
