‘Shark Tank’ fame judge Namita Thapar is in the headlines these days. His recent statement has landed him in trouble. After telling the benefits of Namaz, he is being trolled fiercely, after which he has given clarification while crying. He has broken his silence on online trolling, criticism and abuse faced by him by sharing a video on social media. Namita, Executive Director, Emcure Pharmaceuticals, has given a befitting reply to the trollers by releasing a new video and clarified that as a healthcare professional, her intention was to share only the scientific aspects.

Namita’s counterattack on trolling and hate speech

Namita Thapar shared a video on Instagram and said that she and her mother were being abused for the last three weeks. Expressing grief, he said that he was addressed with abusive words just because he made a video on the health benefits of Namaz. Namita raised the question that when she makes videos on the traditions of Hinduism, the asanas of Yoga Day and especially the health benefits of Surya Namaskar, no one says anything. She explained that as a healthcare professional, she has been talking about the scientific benefits of different traditions.

Issue of women’s safety raised

In her video, Namita explained that R for religion means R for respect. Attacking the double standards of the society, he said that when such abusive language is used against women then why does everyone become silent? Giving the example of the Women’s Reservation Bill, he said that everyone talks about it, but why is there silence on the insult to a woman? Namita stressed that she had learned long ago that no one else will stand for you, you have to speak up for yourself.

What did Namita say on being a Hindu?

Warning the trollers, Namita said that they can continue their work, but they should remember that the principle of ‘karma’ is paramount in Hindu religion. He described himself as a proud Hindu and said that God is watching everything. He appealed to the educated and sensible Hindus that just as his old videos went viral for wrong reasons, in the same way this explanatory video should also go viral so that the truth can reach the people. He recorded this video during the journey at 7 in the morning to give the message that remaining silent is not a virtue.

Why was there an uproar over the Namaz video?

The root of the controversy was Namita’s old video in which she had told about the physical benefits of Namaz. He described it as an excellent exercise for the whole body, which improves flexibility and is good for the health of joints and knees. He also said that Vajrasana performed during namaz helps in digestion and its meditation posture provides mental peace. However, a section of social media saw it through a religious lens and started strongly criticizing the entrepreneur. Namita finally ended her speech with Jai Hind and called it a demand of humanity and patriotism.
