Recently, Asha told why she and her sister used to wear white sarees in the initial days of their career.

When Asha appeared on Amrita Rao and RJ Anmol’s podcast ‘Couple of Things’, she recalled her unspoken relationship with Lata Mangeshkar. Even though both of them had different musical journeys, their personalities at home were completely different. Asha also told why she and sister used to wear white sarees. Asha Bhosle said, ‘Didi Lata Mangeshkar and I always used to wear white sarees. We used to think that white color suits our complexion better. If we had worn other colors we would have looked dark. Later I started wearing pink sarees and my sister used to look at me sideways, but gradually I started wearing pink as well as other colors.

Asha Bhosle was completely different from Lata Mangeshkar

Asha was very proud of the fact that Lata didi always maintained a professional attitude whenever they met in public. Asha told that her sister was absolutely normal at home, whenever we were out she would talk to Asha very softly and lovingly, but their relationship at home was completely different. Talking about this, she had said, ‘We used to speak in Marathi and our conversations were very natural, but as soon as she stepped out of the house… she became ‘Lata Mangeshkar’… a legend, an icon and there was a change in our relationship.’ Asha had told that when it came to singing, there was no relationship between her and her sister. To the outside world she was ‘Lata Mangeshkar’ and she had a different status of her own in the world.

Lata and Asha’s voices are timeless and the duo is considered one of the most famous playback singers of India. Meena Khadikar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar and Hridaynath Mangeshkar. Lata was the eldest among all these brothers and sisters. The songs sung by Lata and Asha have been the biggest achievements of their career. These two sisters had a very loving relationship since childhood. The relationship was so strong that in an interview with ‘India Today’, she revealed that Lata had dropped out of school on her very first day because she was not allowed to keep Asha with her. Both sisters started singing to provide financial support to their family.
