If you frequently travel by air and are troubled by long queues at the airport, then there is good news for you. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given several major instructions to increase the convenience of passengers and improve the security system at the major airports of the country. The purpose of these changes is to make the entire journey from check-in to security check and immigration faster, easier and hi-tech.
Amit Shah has directed that Automated X-ray Tray Return System (ATRS) should be installed in all the airports of the country in a phased manner. Through this system, the tray used during security check will automatically return. This will save time of passengers, reduce crowding and also reduce dependence on employees. Besides, standards will be set for mandatory installation of this system in newly constructed airports also.
A new framework will be created from check-in to immigration
The Home Minister said that the movement of passengers should not be disrupted at any place at the airport. For this, a comprehensive framework will be prepared with better coordination between the entry gate, check-in counter, security screening lane and immigration counter. It aims to make passenger movement faster and smoother at every touch-point.
62 airports will be upgraded in the next two years
In the meeting, Amit Shah directed that the development of a total of 62 airports including 21 airports under construction and 41 other airports should be completed within the next two years. He said that airports where the number of passengers is more should be given priority. Apart from this, instructions were also given to decide the number of aerobridges at each airport based on the number of passengers and flights.
Baggage drop and immigration facilities will be better
Currently, baggage drop facility is available at 16 major airports of the country. Now it will be extended to other international airports with high passenger numbers also. Besides, instructions have been given to start FRRO offices in the headquarters of all the states by 2027 and to open immigration checkpoints at Agartala and Jewar airports soon.
Passengers will get fast and easy travel
Amit Shah also said that while booking international tickets, passengers should send a WhatsApp message for Fast Track Immigration-Trusted Travelers Program (FTI-TTP), so that more and more people can avail this facility. Apart from this, instructions have also been given to conduct a third party study to assess and reduce the delay faced by passengers during the peak season.
