Government has nominated 29 non-official members to the Board of Trade (BOT) headed by the Minister of Commerce and Industry. These also include SBI Chairman CS Shetty, Apple India Managing Director Virat Bhatia and Mahindra & Mahindra MD Anish Shah. The members of this board, including senior officials from states, union territories and government and private sectors, provide a platform to discuss ways to promote manufacturing and exports.
In 2019, the Trade Development and Promotion Council was merged into the Trade Board.
According to a notification of the Commerce Ministry issued on Tuesday, in the year 2019, the government had merged the Trade Development and Promotion Council with the Trade Board for better coordination in the consultation process with all the parties to promote exports and imports. The new non-official members include Sunita Ramnathkar, President, IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Satish Goyal, President, All India Rice Exporters Association, Vikrampati Singhania, President, Automobile Components Manufacturers Association, Sanjay Nayyar, Founder, Sorin Investments, Prashant Prakash, Partner, Excel, Puran Dawar, Chairman and Founder of Dawar Group, Founder of Allcargo Group and Executive Chairman Shashi Kiran is included.
Who else is included in the trade board
Other members include Vaibhav Vohra, group managing director of Continental Carriers, Dilip Omman, CEO of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel, Sandeep Somani, chairman and managing director of Somani Impresa Group, President of SIAM and Shailesh Chandra, managing director and CEO of Tata Motors. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification that it also includes In-Space Chairman Pawan Goenka, EY India Chairman and CEO Rajeev Memani and Yashoda Group of Hospitals Managing Director Upasana Arora. These industrialists will work as facilitators in the implementation of the District Export Center programmes.
What will be the work of the members?
These programs include awareness workshops, identification and promotion of identified products. They will help the State Governments to develop and pursue export strategies in line with the National Foreign Trade Policy. They will also advise the Government on policy measures, preparation and implementation of short-term and long-term plans to increase exports, review the export performance of individual sectors, identify bottlenecks and suggest industry-specific measures to maximize export earnings.
