Pranavi Urs became the first Indian woman golfer to win a gold medal in the Asian Games, achieving this historic feat by maintaining a lead of one stroke in the last round and also gave the team a silver medal. 23-year-old Pranavi from Mysore made three birdies after making a triple bogey on the third hole. He scored an even par 70 in the last round and the total score in four days was 15 under 265. The team of Pranavi, Aditi Ashok (67 in the last round) and Deeksha Dagar (77 in the last round) won the silver medal. India scored 546 under 14. China won the gold medal in the team event with a score of 22 under 538. For India, Shiv Kapoor won the gold medal in men’s golf in the 2002 Busan Games.
Started playing golf at the age of 6
The country’s young female golfer Pranavi Urs, who is just 23 years old, started playing golf at the age of six, inspired by her father and brother. Pranavi was also part of the Indian women’s golf team at the 2023 Asian Games, which narrowly missed out on a medal by finishing fourth in the team event. This is the 18th gold medal for India so far in the Asian Games 2026 and further increase is certain.
