Taking major action in the Mahadev online betting app case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a key accused and alleged kingpin Abhishek Kumar. CBI arrested him at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport as soon as he returned to India from Dubai. Investigation has revealed that Abhishek Kumar was playing an active role in running online betting and gambling network through Mahadev Book, creating coordination between different panels and collecting the money raised from betting.
Bought properties in Dubai with betting money
According to the investigating agency, he had also purchased immovable properties in Dubai with the money earned from betting. In the search conducted immediately after his arrest, CBI has recovered many important and objectionable items from him. The agency says that the seized items prima facie reveal Abhishek’s role in operating the Mahadev betting app. He was working closely with the main accused in the case, Saurabh Chandrakar and Shubham Soni.
After the arrest, Abhishek was produced in the local court of Hyderabad, from where the CBI got three days transit remand. After this he was produced in Raipur court, from where two days police custody remand was obtained.
13 FIRs handed over to CBI
In the case related to Mahadev betting app, Chhattisgarh government had transferred 13 FIRs registered in different police stations to CBI. CBI took over the investigation of these cases. Till now the agency has filed 8 charge sheets against 100 accused in this case. These include the main promoter of Mahadev App, panel operator, hawala operator and some employees of Chhattisgarh government.
CBI is now busy searching for those accused who are still absconding. The agency has also intensified efforts to bring the main promoters of Mahadev Betting App back to India. So far, 7 Red Corner Notices and 2 extradition proposals have been sent, while extradition proceedings are underway against two accused. CBI says that along with bringing all the people involved in the case under the grip of law, the income earned from crime through betting is also being traced.
