Kolkata: Chandrima Bhattacharya, former West Bengal minister and close aide of Mamata Banerjee, today resigned from all party posts, which is considered a big blow to the Trinamool Congress. After resigning, Chandrima Bhattacharya said, “Mamata ji’s trust in me had weakened. When there was no trust and confidence, it became difficult to continue working as a party worker… I respect Kunal Ghosh, but who is he to question my loyalty and on what basis? Mamata Banerjee knows whether I am loyal or not.”

After Mamata Banerjee’s resignation from TMC, Chandrima Bhattacharya said, “You saw what happened yesterday. An incident happened at Trinamool Bhawan. After that Mamata ji spoke to me on the phone. She told me, ‘You handed over Trinamool Bhawan to them.’ I felt saddened by this… There was no need to say so…” After this, Chandrima met Assembly Speaker Rathindra Basu and submitted her resignation to him.

Whom did Mamta call a traitor?

After Chandrima’s resignation, Mamata Banerjee came on Facebook Live and said, it is surprising to see that the people who won the elections on our ticket are saying that the party is not working properly since 2023! If so, then how can you people contest elections in 2026? I was the one who gave you the election symbol and I was the one who signed your nomination in the 2026 elections. How did you become a traitor within two months of the elections?

Why did Mamta say – As long as I am alive…

Mamta said, ‘Those traitors are working as per the wishes of BJP. I will tell him to go straight and join BJP. But you remember, I’m still alive. The party’s election symbol will not go anywhere. If you want to stop me, you have to kill me. Children in Bengal are not getting eggs in the mid-day meal and you are misusing it with the help of the police. I will not blame those who are leaving the party. I know that pressure is being put on them, but I will not bow down to BJP and my party will also not bow down to any pressure.

Political uproar over Chandrima’s resignation

  • On Chandrima Bhattacharya’s resignation from all posts in TMC, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “…she was considered the ‘second soul’ of Mamata Banerjee… She remained unknown for so long because the ‘malai’ being distributed by Mamata Banerjee tasted so good… Now Mamata Banerjee no longer has that ability… When a ship starts sinking, rats start running away; we are seeing the same scenario.”
  • On the rebellion in TMC, BJP MLA Jitendra Tiwari said, “…if they make George Bush their president, he will also leave the party in two days…”
  • On Chandrima Bhattacharya’s resignation, ISF’s Naushad Siddiqui said, “As long as she was getting the benefits, she remained there; now when the benefits are no longer there, she has moved to the other side… They are fighting their own battles. We have nothing to do with it… The day the party is out of power, you will not find a single person standing with her. Just see, not even two months have passed and what has become of the party; it should end.” It’s over…”
  • BJP MLA Dr Rajesh Kumar Suroliya said, “Just look at their internal factionalism and infighting. This party was involved in all kinds of illegal activities, including extortion, extortion, corruption, bribery and commission. Now when they are not getting anything out of it, they are fighting among themselves; there is mutual distrust and no one trusts anyone… We have been for years. They were saying that this party will not survive because once those elements are removed, there is no political base left… The results were declared on May 4 and now it has been 60 days… You can only see the situation after 60 days: the party has completely disintegrated due to internal fighting…”
  • BJP MLA Debashish Dhar said, “…Half of the people have gone here, half there; now there is no one really left with her (Mamata Banerjee). This was bound to happen; TMC was not really a traditional political party. It functioned mostly like a family-run organization, that is why its condition has become so bad, and it is going to get worse. With Mamata Banerjee, there is no one left now who can really stand with her. Chandrima Bhattacharya Mamata was one of Banerjee’s closest aides, and she has also left…”
