Odisha government has taken a big decision in the field of education. The state cabinet has approved ‘Gyanodya-Shiksharu Samridhi’. The objective of this scheme is to save every needy student of the state from leaving studies due to financial problems. The government says that now this is a big step towards making education completely free in the state from Kindergarten i.e. KG to Post Graduation i.e. PG.
Government will pay full admission fees
Under the new scheme, the government will pay the entire admission fee of eligible students studying in regular mode in government and government-aided institutions from the academic session 2026-27. This will include students of classes 9 to 12 of government and aided schools and UG and PG students studying regularly in public universities, government colleges and government aided colleges of the state.
The biggest objective of this scheme is to ensure that no student leaves his studies midway due to lack of money. Especially students from economically weak and deprived families will benefit the most from this. This will increase enrollments in schools and colleges, reduce dropouts and more students will be able to access higher education.
CM told what will be the benefit
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said, “This is a historic decision for Odisha. Our state has become the first state in the country to provide free education to all eligible students from KG to PG. Through the ‘Gyanodya-Shiksharu Samridhi’ scheme, lakhs of students will get the opportunity of good education and financial constraints will not be a hindrance in their studies. More than 32 lakh students will benefit from it every year. Regular students studying in government and government-aided institutions from class 9 to PG will get the opportunity. The fees will be borne by the government. Earlier, education from KG to class 8 has been fulfilled. This will increase enrollment in higher education, develop skills of the youth and create educated and capable human resources for the development of Odisha.
Who will get the benefit?
However, this scheme will not be applicable to all students. Its benefit will be available only to students studying in regular courses in government and government-aided institutions. Self-financing courses, private institutions, institutions of PPP model and professional and technical courses are not included in the scope of this scheme.
Government will spend Rs 895.57 crore
The government will spend Rs 895.57 crore in the first year for this ambitious scheme. A total of Rs 5,467.55 crore will be spent on this scheme in the next five years. The government estimates that this will directly benefit more than 32 lakh students every year and will significantly reduce the financial burden of education on their families.
A big step towards providing equal opportunities to every child and youth
This scheme has been prepared in accordance with the goals of National Education Policy 2020, Odisha Vision 2036 and Odisha Vision 2047. According to the government, ‘Gyanodya-Shiksharu Samriddhi’ is not just a scheme to waive fees, but it is a big step towards providing equal opportunities to every child and youth of the state.
