The data revealed after the first phase of Special Intensive Revision i.e. SIR in Odisha has attracted people’s attention. While earlier a total of 3 crore 33 lakh 99 thousand 591 voters were registered in Odisha, now 3 crore 13 lakh 87 thousand 34 names have been included in the published draft voter list. That means at first glance about 20.12 lakh names are less visible. However, the Election Commission has clarified that this does not mean that the names of all these people have been removed permanently.

More than 3 crore 13 lakh voters had submitted enumeration forms.

According to the information, the SIR campaign was conducted from 30 May to 28 June 2026. During this period, 93.97 percent i.e. 3 crore 13 lakh 87 thousand 34 voters of the state submitted their enumeration forms. This number has currently been included in the draft voter list.

Whose names were removed from the draft list?

Many reasons have been given for the names of about 20 lakh people whose names are not visible in the draft list. These include people who have become voters in another state, who have died, who were not found at their address, who did not submit the form by the due date or did not want to continue registering as a voter for any other reason. The Commission said that the names of some people were found registered at more than one place. In such cases the name will be kept at only one place in the final list.

Time to lodge claims and objections is till 4th August

The Election Commission has clarified that if the name of any eligible voter is not in the draft list then there is no need to panic. The process of claims and objections will continue till August 4, 2026. During this time, the concerned person can apply for re-inclusion of his name by filling Form-6. Necessary documents and declaration form will have to be submitted along with the application.

How to check your name in the draft voter list?

If any citizen wants to check whether his name is in the draft voter list or not, he can contact the booth level officer of his area. Apart from this, names can also be seen on ECINET mobile app, Voters Portal and website of Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha.

People have the option of appealing to the Chief Electoral Officer

The Election Commission has also said that no voter’s name will be removed without notice and proper procedure. If there is a proposal to remove any name, the concerned authorities will issue a notice and the decision will be taken only after the hearing. If any person is dissatisfied with this decision, he can appeal to the District Collector and then to the Chief Electoral Officer.

SIR work done intensively in 30 districts

In this entire campaign, election officials, booth level officers, observers, volunteers and booth level agents of various political parties worked together in 30 districts of the state. The Commission says that the purpose of this special review is only one. The name of every eligible citizen should be included in the voter list and the name of any ineligible person should not remain in the list. Now everyone’s eyes will be on the claim and objection process which will continue till August 4. After this, after completion of investigation, the final voter list of Odisha will be published on 6 September 2026.
