Legislative Council elections in Karnataka have increased the concerns of BJP and JDS. Congress has won five seats in this election. The victory of Congress on 5 seats has indicated that there has been heavy cross voting in favor of Congress from the opposition parties BJP and JDS. The five Congress candidates needed 140 first preference votes to win, but the results show that the five Congress candidates got a total of 151 first preference votes. This suggests that there was cross voting among at least 11 MLAs from the opposition parties BJP and JDS.

This process was completed through secret voting. That is why it will take some time for both the parties to find out who has done cross voting. However, BJP leaders feel that apart from the two expelled MLAs ST Somashekhar and Shivram Hebbar, three MLAs have cross-voted, while 8 out of 18 JDS MLAs have cross-voted.

Four JDS MLAs did cross voting

JDS says that out of 18, their candidate Govind Raju got 14 votes. This means that only 4 MLAs of JDS have done cross voting. These results have further increased the distrust in the JDS and BJP alliance. However, leaders of both the parties are claiming that the people who are involved in treason within the party will be identified and action will be taken against them.

Congress also got majority in Legislative Council

Due to cross voting by BJP for Congress, questions are also bound to be raised on the leadership skills of CM Yediyurappa’s son and State President BY Vijayendra. At the same time, the credit is being given to CM DK Shivkumar for giving a big victory to the party after sitting on the CM’s chair. After ensuring the victory of 5 Legislative Councilors, the Congress Party has come into majority in the 175-member Legislative Council, due to which it will now become easier for the Congress Government to pass the critical bill.
