A shocking incident has come to light from Belagavi district of Karnataka. An attempt was made to show a natural death by killing an ex-soldier for insurance money of Rs 2 crore. Belagavi District Police has arrested 9 people in this sensational case. These include the victim’s wife, an officer of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and a city police employee. They are accused of conspiring to murder an ex-serviceman and tampering with forensic evidence to hide the crime.
Was admitted to government hospital
District SP. Ramarajan said the accused allegedly killed Sandeep Kalagouda Manjargi, 46, a resident of Ghodgeri village in Hukkeri taluka, to make an accident insurance claim of around Rs 2 crore. Manjargi, who was a former soldier. While returning to his village on March 13, he was slightly injured after falling from a motorcycle. He was initially admitted to the government hospital in Hukkeri.
According to police, during first medical examination it was found that his injuries were not serious. However, his wife Suma took him to JJ Hospital in Ghataprabha, where he died of cardiac arrest on March 15.
Cardiac arrest said to be the cause of death
Doctors at JJ Hospital sensed something was wrong and advised the post-mortem to be conducted at Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) District Hospital. The initial post-mortem report and subsequent FSL investigation revealed cardiac arrest as the cause of death.

For 2 months, everything went according to their plan but in the meantime there was a big fight between Suma and her lover Pundalik regarding money transactions, the fight reached such a level that Suma threatened to end the relationship with Pundalik, Pundalik had an idea that being Sandeep’s wife, Suma would get all the insurance money, so he decided to expose Suma and this was when the matter took a big turn. When accused Pundalik Vitthal Dombar released a video on social media alleging that Manjargi was murdered. Claimed that he had information about this crime.
When the police started investigation, it was found that after retiring from the Army, Manjargi, along with Dombar, had started a food stall near Hidkal Dam in 2023. During this time, Dombar and former soldier’s wife Suma allegedly developed an illicit relationship. Investigators suspect that the two conspired to eliminate Manjargi to get his insurance benefits.
Rahul Hanumant Jogi, a relative of Dombar and an employee of JJ Hospital, allegedly suggested Manjargi to be brought to JJ Hospital and assured the conspirators that he would kill Sandeep without any suspicion.
Rat poison and sleeping pills were also given
Investigation revealed that on March 14, three accused allegedly tried to administer rat poison intravenously, but they did not succeed. The next day, they allegedly procured another poison from outside, administered it by injection and also administered sleeping pills. After this he died. Initially the cause of death was said to be cardiac arrest. Following Dombar’s revelations, the police exhumed Manjargi’s body and ordered a second post-mortem.

Police said that Suma’s mother, who is a retired health worker. To save his daughter, he sought help from registered medical practitioner Basavaraj Bhasme. Bhasme allegedly took the help of his relative Ashok Gujnal, who was an employee with the city police. The duo then allegedly contacted FSL peon Appasab Fakhruddin Naikwadi to make changes in the forensic report.
Changes made in FSL report to hide evidence
Police allege that FSL laboratory assistant Channappa Adaviswamymath along with senior scientific officer PM Nagaraju made changes in the FSL report to hide the evidence of poisoning. The investigation also revealed that YouTuber Sachin Sellar and three other people who had learned about the murder from Dombar. Tried to demand money and sexual favors from Suma in exchange for keeping quiet. The police have arrested all the 9 accused involved in this sensational murder case.
