Two youth became victims of an accident on the Kedarnath trekking route in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. One died in the accident, while the other is seriously injured. Two pilgrims fell into a deep gorge while descending a shortcut route, officials said on Wednesday. According to the District Emergency Operation Centre, the incident occurred between pole number 337 and 340 on the Kedarnath pedestrian route.
The two young pilgrims who met with the accident were descending through an unauthorized shortcut. During this time, their foot slipped and both of them fell into a deep ditch. DOC said that information about the accident was received on Wednesday. After this the rescue team was immediately sent to the spot. Teams of SDRF Badi Lincholi along with YMF personnel and police reached the spot and started rescue operations.
Treatment was done at Medical Relief Point
During the relief and rescue operation, SDRF personnel rescued one of the injured pilgrims and shifted him to the Medical Relief Point (MRP) at Chhoti Lincholi for treatment. The injured pilgrim was identified as Mohit (27), a resident of Gokulpuri in north-east Delhi. Medical examination revealed that he had a fracture in his leg. Officials said that after initial treatment, he has been referred to Gaurikund for further treatment.
The deceased is a resident of Farrukhabad.
The second pilgrim was identified as Priyanshu Shukla (27), a resident of Farrukhabad district of Uttar Pradesh, officials said. He was rescued by YMF personnel and disaster management volunteers and taken to the medical relief center at Bhimbali. However, according to officials, doctors declared him dead after investigation. The DOC said that the body of the deceased is being taken to Gaurikund and later it will be sent to Rudraprayag district hospital for post-mortem and completion of legal formalities.
Health department on high alert
The health department is on high alert in view of the huge crowd during Kedarnath Yatra in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand. Many pilgrims fell ill due to the high altitude and challenging weather conditions. Apart from this, many other accidents also happened in which he got injured. Critically ill and injured pilgrims are being airlifted from Kedarnath Dham to Phata and Guptkashi, where they are receiving good treatment. Patients who need special care are being airlifted from Rudraprayag headquarters to higher medical centers through air ambulances. AIIMS is also included in these.
