Brahmapur: A sensational case has come to light in Brahmapur, Odisha, where a seriously burnt police constable has accused his wife and brother-in-law of pouring petrol on him and setting him on fire. This statement of the constable came to light during treatment in the hospital, the video of which is now going viral on social media.
The injured constable has been identified as Ashutosh Mridangiya. He is working as a motor vehicle constable in the RTO office located in Chhatrapur. At present he is undergoing treatment in the hospital and considering his condition, he has been admitted to the ICU.
What allegations did the injured constable make?
Ashutosh Mridangiya, in his statement given in the hospital, said that the incident happened when he had gone to the government quarters of his wife Sandhya Nayak. Sandhya Nayak is working as a constable in the district police. According to Ashutosh, after reaching the quarter his wife and his brother attacked him. He alleged that both of them together poured petrol on him and when he was trying to run away from there, his brother-in-law lit a matchstick and set him on fire.
The injured constable told that as soon as the matchbox was lit, his body caught fire and he was suddenly surrounded by flames. To save his life he immediately ran out of the house.
Ashutosh said that after the fire, he ran to a nearby house. The people present there, seeing his condition, immediately helped him. People poured a bucket of water on them, which extinguished the fire.
He told that after the fire was extinguished he fell on the ground. After some time, an ambulance reached the spot and he was taken to the hospital, where his treatment was started. In his statement, Ashutosh said that after the fire, he was continuously running to save his life. If people around had not helped in time, his life could have been in greater danger.
After the incident, discussion regarding this matter has started in the area also. People’s attention came towards this matter after the video went viral on social media. After the serious allegations made by the constable, the police has started investigating the case. Brahmapur Police has registered a case on the basis of the complaint.
SP’s statement came out
Brahmapur SP Saravana Vivek M said that the named FIR has been registered on the basis of the complaint received. The police team and scientific investigation team have started investigating the case. The incident site and other facts are being investigated so that the truth of the entire matter can be revealed. At present no person has been detained in this case.
Further legal action will be taken on the basis of whatever facts come to light during the investigation. All aspects of the case are being investigated closely and appropriate steps will be taken after completion of the investigation. Ashutosh Mridangiya’s treatment is still going on and he has been kept in the ICU of the hospital. If needed, he can also be shifted to some other hospital. At present he is undergoing treatment under the supervision of doctors.”
