The Congress Party has today formally announced the name of V.D. Satheesan as the Chief Minister of Kerala. Satheesan will take oath as CM on May 18. At the same time, now the reaction of senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has come to the fore. Tharoor praised Satheesan’s selection, saying his determination and his years of service to the party and the public have been acknowledged.
What else did Shashi Tharoor say?
Tharoor, who campaigned extensively in the recent assembly elections, also said that this was not the victory of any individual but a mandate for “Team UDF”. Tharoor said on his social media platform Hearty congratulations to D. Satheesan ji on being named Leader of the Congress Legislature Party, it is a fitting acknowledgment of his determination, conviction and years of dedicated service to our party and people.”
‘This is not an individual’s victory, it is a mandate for team UDF’
“I campaigned with him and I am happy with his appointment,” the Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram said. We all realize that the mandate that has catapulted him to office is not the victory of an individual, it is a mandate for team UDF. Every senior leader has an important role and responsibility in ensuring that this government lives up to the expectations of the people of Kerala.” He further said, “The strength of our alliance lies in its diversity, and we all look forward to working together to build a Kerala that is prosperous, just and visionary.”
Shashi Tharoor’s name was discussed
Let us tell you that this time the main fight in the state was between the ruling LDF and the opposition UDF. The biggest question in the political circles was who would sit on the Chief Minister’s chair from the Congress-led UDF? Especially the ongoing discussions regarding the name of Shashi Tharoor had made this election activity even more interesting. But today the party put an end to those discussions by announcing the name of V.D. Satheesan.
Why did Congress express confidence in Satishan?
Let us tell you that V.D. Satheesan has been considered an active and influential face in Kerala Congress politics for a long time. Till now he was the voice of the opposition in the Kerala Assembly and was playing the role of Leader of the Opposition. His hold in the organization is also considered strong. That is why the party leadership has now decided to make him the CM of Kerala.
