Spices have a special place in Indian kitchen. They are used to enhance the taste of any food. Turmeric is also one such spice, which not only brings color to the food but is also considered beneficial for health. Turmeric is used as a medicine in Ayurveda. Turmeric contains curcumin which helps in reducing inflammation in the body and increasing immunity. But these days, a lot of adulterated turmeric is being sold in the market which can harm health. In such a situation, here we are going to tell you about some easy tricks with the help of which you can easily identify adulteration in turmeric.

1. Water Test

This is the easiest method. For this, add one spoon turmeric in a glass of lukewarm water. If the turmeric slowly settles down and the color of the water remains light yellow, then the turmeric is pure. If the color of the water becomes dark yellow or thick and the turmeric does not settle down quickly, then it is adulterated.

2. Acid Test
Metanil Yellow can cause serious diseases like cancer. It is used to make turmeric shiny. For this, take some turmeric in a test tube or glass vessel and add a few drops of hydrochloric acid or vinegar available at home. If the mixture turns purple immediately and remains purple even after adding water, then metanil yellow has been used. The color of pure turmeric may change slightly when acid is added, but it immediately turns back to yellow.

3. Taste with lemon
For this, mix some turmeric and water in a glass vessel. Add a few drops of lemon juice in it. If bubbles start rising in the mixture, then understand that chalk powder or stone powder has been mixed in it.

4. Try rubbing it on your palm
Place some turmeric on your palm and rub it with your thumb for about 20-30 seconds. Pure turmeric will leave a yellow stain on your skin and will not cause any burning sensation in the palm when rubbed. Whereas adulterated turmeric will not leave any dark stain when rubbed or its color will look very artificial.
