estonia Indian Ambassador to India Ashish Sinha has said that after the implementation of the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union (EU), this country can become a gateway for India to the markets of Northern Europe. Sinha said that bilateral relations between India and Estonia are continuously moving in a positive direction and the existing trade between the two countries provides a strong foundation. He said that after the implementation of India-EU FTA, this base can be used to enhance cooperation. He said, “After the implementation of FTA, the connection between small and medium industries will increase and Estonian dairy and agricultural products will get a market in India. For India, Estonia will be the gateway to Northern Europe.”
Negotiations on FTA were completed on January 27
India and the European Union had announced the completion of FTA negotiations on January 27 this year. Under this agreement, 93 percent of India’s exports are likely to get duty-free access to 27 countries in Europe. Whereas, importing luxury cars and liquor from EU may become cheaper. Referring to the Estonian e-Residency initiative, the Indian Ambassador said that many Indian businessmen and high-value industrialists have joined the program and around 5,000 Indians are part of it. He said, “More than 1000 Indians have registered their companies under the e-residency program.”

Ambassador Ashish Sinha said that companies especially from the technology and commodity sectors are coming here and are looking for opportunities in the big markets of Northern Europe through Estonia. Bilateral trade in goods between India and Estonia stood at 139.3 million Euros in 2025, while trade in services was estimated at 66.4 million Euros. According to the data, India’s foreign direct investment (FDI) in Estonia till December 2025 stood at 13.6 million euros. At the same time, during April 2000 to March 2025, Estonian FDI in India was 41.5 lakh US dollars.
