After failing in two consecutive innings, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal once again disappointed, but Devdutt Padikkal kept India A’s hopes alive by taking charge in difficult times. In the four-day match against New Zealand-A, Padikkal and Sai Sudarshan rescued the team from the initial shock by making a brilliant partnership for the third wicket. However, by the end of the second day’s play, the Indian team was 98 runs behind the host team and New Zealand-A remained in control of the match.

In this match being played in Lincoln, New Zealand-A had scored 317 runs in the first innings. In response, India A’s first innings was reduced to just 113 runs. In this way New Zealand A got a huge lead of 204 runs in the first innings. In the second innings too, the Indian team had a very poor start and Rahul and Jaiswal returned to the pavilion early. Padikkal showed strength in difficult situations

In the second innings, India A lost the wickets of both the openers on the score of just 10 runs. In such pressure situations, Padikkal and Sai Sudarshan batted with composure. There was an unbeaten partnership of 96 runs on 188 balls between the two for the third wicket, which played an important role in handling the Indian innings.

Padikkal scored unbeaten 56 runs facing 89 balls during his innings. Patience and responsibility were clearly visible in his batting. However, he also got a life at the beginning of the innings. Shortly after coming to the crease, Christian Clarke’s ball hit the edge of his bat, but Rhys Mariu, standing at second slip, failed to catch the catch. After this Padikkal took his innings forward and completed his half-century. On the other hand, Sai Sudarshan also batted without making any mistakes. He remained unbeaten after scoring 39 runs on 104 balls. Padikkal and Sai Sudarshan, who are vying for the third spot in the Test team, have tried to strengthen their claim in front of the selectors with this partnership.

Rahul and Jaiswal disappointed again

The performance of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal in this match, which is considered important for practice before the upcoming Test series, was a matter of concern. Rahul was out without opening the account in the first innings, while in the second innings he could score only four runs. He was hit wicket while trying to push the ball away from the wickets after getting the inside edge.

Jaiswal also failed to play big innings in both the innings. He scored 17 runs in the first innings and only five runs in the second innings. Both the batsmen faced only 77 balls in total in the entire match. His early dismissal before the Test series starting from the third week of November could be a matter of concern for the team management. Earlier, New Zealand-A had started the day with 135 runs for three wickets. Dean Foxcroft played an important role in taking the team to 317 runs by forming useful partnerships with the lower order batsmen.
