Former New Zealand opening batsman and Indian-origin cricketer Jeet Rawal has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. 38-year-old Jeet Rawal, born in India, has played 24 Test matches for New Zealand between 2016 and 2020. Jeet told that after retiring from cricket, he will now make a new start and will work full time as a Chartered Accountant (CA) in an auditing firm.

Jeet Rawal has opened with Parthiv Patel

Jeet Rawal was born in Gujarat and his cricket journey has been quite interesting. He studied with former Indian player Parthiv Patel at Vidyanagar School in Ahmedabad and both used to open the batting together during their school days. Later his family moved from Gujarat to Auckland city of New Zealand. There he made his mark playing for the New Zealand Under-19 team and played his first first-class match for the Auckland team in 2008. After this, in the year 2016, he made his Test debut in the match against Pakistan. The special thing is that in the year 2021, when New Zealand won the World Test Championship title for the first time by defeating India, Jeet Rawal was also a part of that winning team.

While retiring, Jeet Rawal said that it is a matter of great pride and honor for him to take this decision. He is completely happy and satisfied with his decision. He further said that it was his childhood dream to play for New Zealand and when he looks back at his career, he feels very happy. This was not only his dream but also his father’s dream. His father saw hope for a better future and brought the entire family to New Zealand so that he could fulfill his dream of becoming a cricketer.

Jeet scored more than 10 thousand runs in first class cricket

Jeet Raval was one of the most reliable and excellent opening batsmen in New Zealand domestic cricket. Out of 292 first-class innings of his career, he batted 285 innings as an opener and scored 10127 runs at an average of around 37, which included 23 centuries. He scored 8662 runs in New Zealand’s biggest domestic tournament, Plunket Shield. In his career, Jeet scored 1143 runs in 39 innings of 24 Test matches at an average of 30.07. During this period he managed to score 1 century and 7 half-centuries.
