Former England cricket team batsman and Kent club legend Joe Denly has announced his retirement from professional cricket. Denly, who has turned 40, will say goodbye to cricket forever after the end of the 2026 season. He has been associated with this sport for more than 20 years. He played his last international match against Australia in September 2020. He has played under the captaincy of Joe Root and Stokes.
Excellent record in domestic cricket and deep connection with Kent
Joe Denly started playing for the Kent team for the first time in the year 2004. He led his team to victory in many matches. With his help, the team won its first T-20 trophy in 2007 and in 2022, he became the captain and also made the team win the ‘One-Day Cup’ trophy. He is the first player from Kent team to score 5000 runs in T-20 matches. Apart from this, he is counted among those special batsmen of Kent who have scored centuries in all three formats of cricket, Test, ODI and T-20.

Joe Denly’s journey of playing for the England team was full of ups and downs. He played his first match in the year 2009, but the very next year (2010) he was dropped from the team. After this, he had to wait for 8 long years to get another chance and returned to the team in 2018. He played a total of 15 test matches for England. During this time, while batting at number 3, he played many important innings for the team in difficult times, which also includes memorable innings played against Australia in 2019.
