Big news for CSK fans, will we have to wait longer for Dhoni?

MS Dhoni: The troubles of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026 are not showing any signs of diminishing. On one hand the team is already struggling with injuries, on the other hand the injury of young batsman Ayush Mhatre has further increased the team’s worries. At the same time, the big question still remains for the fans that when will Mahendra Singh Dhoni finally return. 18 year old Ayush Mhatre, who was looking in great form in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, suffered a hamstring injury, due to which he may be out of the next few matches. According to the information, a scan will be done on April 20 to find out the severity of his injury.

Waiting for update on Mhatre

Batting at No. 3 in the match against SRH, Mhatre had got off to a good start, but while trying to take a quick second run, he was seen holding his left hamstring. He required treatment on the field twice and was taken off the field with the help of support staff after being dismissed.

CSK will now play its next match against Mumbai Indians on 23 April at Wankhede Stadium. CSK suffered another blow when fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed was ruled out of the entire tournament due to a quadriceps injury. The team is now looking for his replacement. Former Mumbai Indians fast bowler Akash Madhwal has given trials in Hyderabad, while Rajvardhan Hungergekar will also take part in the trials in Mumbai.

When will Dhoni return?

According to the report of Cricbuzz, the team has currently reached Mumbai and Mahendra Singh Dhoni is also present with the squad. However, the situation is still not clear regarding his return. Dhoni has not been able to play a single match in IPL 2026 so far, as he is still recovering from injury. On Dhoni’s return, Hussey said that to be honest, he is not sure. He is making good progress in his recovery and he is happy with his batting. He further said that now it is all about his running, because if he has to bat in the latter part of the innings, he will have to be able to take quick singles and doubles. He will have to increase confidence in his running and improve his speed. He doesn’t know when he will play, but he hopes it will be soon, like all the fans want.
