Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, while honoring meritorious students of classes 10 and 12, presented a gold necklace to a class 12 state topper at an event held in Chennai on Wednesday. The students and their families, many of whom had gathered at the venue since early morning, were excited to meet Vijay. Monica, a Class 12 student from Tiruvannamalai who scored 566 marks out of 600, told news agency PTI that receiving the award at the hands of Chief Minister Vijay was a “very special moment” and would inspire future generations.
CM made emotional appeal to students
Referring to his transition from cinema to governance, Vijay said he entered politics keeping the welfare of students in mind. He reminded the students that their parents, society and the state have great expectations from them. The Chief Minister also encouraged the students to create their own identity and not be afraid in the face of challenges. He said, “If people create obstacles in your path, then understand that your success is certain.” Also, he appealed to the students not to become slaves of bad habits and “stay away from corruption and drugs”.
Srinidhi, a Class 10 student from Cuddalore, who has scored 494 marks out of 500, said the honor from the newly elected Chief Minister is a matter of great pride for her and her school. The event was part of the first phase of TVK Educational Awards, in which Vijay himself distributed certificates and financial incentives to meritorious students.
Vijay told the purpose of coming into politics
Addressing the students, Vijay said that one of the motives behind his entry into politics was to work for the welfare of the students. He asked the students to give priority to education, stay away from corruption and drugs, and work towards achieving their goals. He said, “I am not here to do politics, ask for votes or talk about the party. You don’t need party politics right now. Study hard, achieve big things and change your life. After this, you can think about our society and your Tamil Nadu.”
