Chennai: DMK president and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has attacked the ruling Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) government. He claimed that the current TVK government is being run with the support of parties that were once part of the DMK-led alliance. Along with this, Stalin pledged that his party would soon end this government.

Addressing party workers at an event where several AIADMK leaders joined the DMK, Stalin alleged that the government was dependent on the support of parties that were once part of the DMK-led alliance and had secured assembly seats under that alliance.

“The present government is running on mercy”

He said, “The present government is working at the mercy of our former coalition partners. Those parties wanted the DMK to win. Their leaders had told me on several occasions that they intended to join the TVK. I told them it was their democratic right. At that time, I did not want a situation that would lead to imposition of President’s rule or BJP rule in the state.”

“DMK will make a grand comeback to power soon”

The DMK president clarified that his party had so far not taken any step to destabilize the government because they did not want political uncertainty in Tamil Nadu. However, Stalin said that now the circumstances have changed. He called on party workers and cadres to work to overthrow the TVK government. Stalin expressed full confidence that DMK would soon make a grand comeback to power in the state.

TVK got 108 seats in Tamil Nadu elections

The results of the assembly elections held in Tamil Nadu this year were historic. Actor Vijay’s new party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the largest party in this election and won 108 seats. At the same time, the DMK alliance led by former Chief Minister MK Stalin got 73 seats (DMK- 59 seats, Congress- 5 seats, CPI- 2 seats, CPI-M- 2 seats, VCK- 2 seats, IUML- 2 seats, DMDK- 1 seat).

Whereas, the AIADMK alliance had to be content with 53 seats (AIADMK- 47 seats, PMK- 4 seats, BJP- 1 seat, AMMK- 1 seat).

However, no single party could get the required figure of 118 for majority. After this, TVK government was formed with the support of other parties and C. Joseph Vijay i.e. Thalapathy Vijay took oath as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
