Padma Bhushan awarded constitutional expert Dr. Subhash Kashyap passes away, remained associated with Parliament for 37 years

Dr. Subhash C. Kashyap, the country’s well-known constitutional expert, expert on politics and parliamentary matters, has passed away. He breathed his last at his home at the age of 97. According to the information, he died due to cardiac and lung failure i.e. cardio-pulmonary arrest. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over his demise.

Remained associated with Parliament for 37 years

Dr. Subhash Kashyap was born on 10 May 1929. Dr. Kashyap was born in Chandpur in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh in a freedom fighter family. He became actively involved in the national freedom struggle in his teenage years. He started his career from the Parliament Secretariat in the year 1953 and remained associated with the Parliament for about 37 years. He was the General Secretary of the 7th, 8th and 9th Lok Sabha of the country from 1984 to 1990. He also headed the ‘International Center for Parliamentary Documentation’ (IPU) in Geneva.

Dr. Kashyap was an advisor on Panchayati Raj laws to the Government of India. Furthermore, when a National Commission was formed to review the working of the country’s Constitution, he was its member and also the Chairman of the drafting committee. He was also the President of the Indian National Bar Association (INBA) for a long time.

Received ‘Padma Bhushan’ in 2015

In view of his brilliant work for the country and society, the Government of India honored him with ‘Padma Bhushan’, one of the country’s biggest honors, in 2015. The books written by him are still a guide for students and law experts.
