‘AI can give medicine, but cannot understand the patient’s pain’, Vice President’s big message for doctors

Delhi: Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Tuesday said no Artificial Intelligence (AI) can replace the moral responsibility of the doctor standing next to the patient’s bed. He appealed to doctors to be “patient with patients”. Speaking at the 51st convocation of Delhi AIIMS, he said that doctors should not lose the opportunity to study in prestigious institutions abroad, but they must return to serve their country and their people.

‘A few kind words are more effective than medicine’

The Vice President said that AI-powered technology is making its way into many fields including medicine. But no AI can replace the moral responsibility of the doctor standing at the patient’s bedside.” Radhakrishnan told the doctors, “Your human compassion and a few kind words can be more effective than medicine.”

‘If patients ask absurd questions, doctor should be patient with them’

He appealed to doctors to be patient with patients when they ask absurd questions. When you explain things to them, they will understand. He said that by opening AIIMS at other places, health services are reaching areas where they were not available earlier and people from far away places do not have to run to Delhi for treatment.

The Vice President also praised the Union Health Ministry for opening new medical and nursing colleges in many states to meet the aspirations of the students. Union Health Minister JP Nadda was also present on this occasion.
