Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu has passed a censure motion against Congress. DMK has accused Congress of ‘betrayal’. The party says that after the election results, Congress leaders did not even pay a courtesy call to DMK President (MK Stalin) nor say a word of thanks. In the event of a hung assembly after the 2026 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, the DMK has turned down the proposal by AIADMK to form the government and expressed its displeasure towards the Congress. This proposal reflects the rift in (INDI Alliance) and strain in relations with Congress.
DMK said a big thing
Responding to questions arising on speculations of DMK-AIADMK alliance, DMK spokesperson T.K.S. “The party will accept Stalin’s future political decisions,” Elangovan said. He further said that Congress failed to work honestly even during the elections and Chief Minister M.K. Despite Stalin maintaining patience and political decorum during the alliance, Congress leaders did not even meet him and express their gratitude. The leaders have asked the DMK MLAs to stay in Chennai till May 10.
What was said in the censure motion
DMK’s censure motion against Congress said, this shows that the Congress party has not changed its old character. In our alliance, Congress was allotted one Rajya Sabha seat and 28 assembly seats. It jeopardized the hard-earned victory of its alliance members by joining an alternative party within three days.” Even during seat-sharing talks, the Congress did not rein in those who raised their voice against the alliance; and in the Puducherry elections, Congress party candidates contested seats allotted to the DMK.
In other words, the Congress party did not behave honestly even during the elections. Congress has committed a grave betrayal by stabbing our party leader in the back and not even coming personally to thank him for the victory. But he (Stalin) showed tolerance and acted generously and responsibly.”
