Ever since the teaser of Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Ramayana’ has been released, discussions about it are in full swing. Recently a YouTuber also talked about this upcoming mega budget film and claimed that this film is going to go to the Oscars. Ranbir Kapoor is going to be seen in the avatar of Ram in the film and Sai Pallavi will be playing the role of Mother Sita. Recently, when the teaser of the film was released, one thing caught everyone’s attention and that thing was the Pushpak Viman, on which a slight glimpse of Yash was seen in the role of Ravana. After the release of the teaser, discussion about Ramanand Sagar’s TV serial ‘Ramayana’ also started. How the Pushpak Viman was prepared and flown in this mythological serial that aired 38 years ago, this question often comes to people’s mind, because in those days Ramanand Sagar did not use any VFX or graphics for the Pushpak Viman.

How did Ramanand Sagar prepare Pushpak Viman?

Ramanand Sagar brought ‘Ramayana’ in 1988. In this period, neither the technology was so advanced nor the budget of the makers was so high. In such a situation, how did Ramanand Sagar make Pushpak Viman and what device was used to fly it? This question keeps arising often. Sunil Lahiri, who was seen in the role of ‘Laxman’ in this serial, had revealed about the tricks and jugaad used by the makers for Pushpak Viman and the scenes related to it.

The art department had prepared the sketch

Sunil Lahiri, while talking to ‘Telly Talk India’ in 2022, had shared interesting stories related to making and flying the Pushpak Viman. Along with this, he also told how the team had designed and flown the Pushpak aircraft. Talking about this, Sunil Lahiri had said- ‘Pushpak Vimana has been a part of Indian culture. Pushpak Vimana in Ramayana produced and directed by Ramanand Sagar was imaginary. No one had any idea what Pushpak Viman would be like. Then the art department prepared some sketches according to the image of Ravana and thus Pushpak Viman was ready.

Sunil Lahiri further talked about the scenes in which the Pushpak Vimana was shown flying. He told that the scene of Sita abduction was shot by keeping the Pushpak Viman at a height of only 4 feet. These scenes were shot on Blue Chroma. Then outdoor shooting was done and both were paired together. Sunil Lahiri says- ‘A model was selected from the sketch prepared. Accordingly, Pushpak Vimana was prepared and shooting was done on Croma. Pushpak Vimana was placed at four feet height and shooting was done. Then it was merged with outdoor shooting.
