How did Ramanand Sagar prepare Pushpak Viman?

In such a situation, how did Ramanand Sagar make Pushpak Viman and what device was used to fly it? This question keeps arising often. Sunil Lahiri, who was seen in the role of ‘Laxman’ in this serial, had revealed about the tricks and jugaad used by the makers for Pushpak Viman and the scenes related to it.

Sunil Lahiri, while talking to ‘Telly Talk India’ in 2022, had shared interesting stories related to making and flying the Pushpak Viman. Along with this, he also told how the team had designed and flown the Pushpak aircraft. Talking about this, Sunil Lahiri had said- ‘Pushpak Vimana has been a part of Indian culture. Pushpak Vimana in Ramayana produced and directed by Ramanand Sagar was imaginary. No one had any idea what Pushpak Viman would be like. Then the art department prepared some sketches according to the image of Ravana and thus Pushpak Viman was ready.

Sunil Lahiri further talked about the scenes in which the Pushpak Vimana was shown flying. He told that the scene of Sita abduction was shot by keeping the Pushpak Viman at a height of only 4 feet. These scenes were shot on Blue Chroma. Then outdoor shooting was done and both were paired together. Sunil Lahiri says- ‘A model was selected from the sketch prepared. Accordingly, Pushpak Vimana was prepared and shooting was done on Croma. Pushpak Vimana was placed at four feet height and shooting was done. Then it was merged with outdoor shooting.
