In May this year, electric passenger car sales reached 26,682 units with a bumper growth of 81.2 percent. Whereas, only 14,725 electric passenger cars were sold in May last year. Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) on Tuesday shared important figures related to the sales of electric vehicles.

Tata’s dominance continues

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Association said in a statement that Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited remained on top in terms of selling electric passenger cars. The company’s sales doubled last month to 10,340 units. Tata Motors had sold 5,083 electric vehicles in May last year.

Mahindra sold 6,210 electric cars in May

After Tata, Mahindra & Mahindra sold 6,210 electric cars in May and stood second in the list. Mahindra sold 114.8 percent more vehicles in May this year compared to May last year. This company had sold 2,891 electric vehicles in May last year. FADA said that JSW MG Motor India stood third in this list. This company sold 4,984 electric vehicles in May. In May last year, the company had sold 4,599 electric vehicles.

TVS continues to dominate the electric two-wheeler segment

Total sales in the electric two-wheeler segment in May increased by 62.76 percent to 1,70,733 units. A total of 1,04,896 electric two-wheelers were sold in May last year. In May this year, TVS Motor stood first in the list of companies selling the most electric two-wheelers. In May this year, TVS’s sales of electric two-wheelers increased by 64.54 percent to 42,459 units. TVS sold 25,804 two-wheelers in May last year.

Bajaj Auto is at second place and Ather Energy is at third place.

According to FADA data, Bajaj Auto stood second in the list of companies selling the most electric two-wheelers in May. Bajaj sold a total of 39,202 vehicles in May. Bajaj sold 22,642 electric two-wheelers in May last year. Ather Energy stood third after TVS, selling 28,240 two-wheelers. The company had sold 14,101 two-wheelers in May last year.

Sales of electric three-wheelers also on the rise

Total retail sales of electric three-wheelers last month stood at 71,867 units. Whereas in May, 2025 it was 66,185 units. At the same time, total sales of electric commercial vehicles stood at 2,400 units in May. Whereas in May, 2025 it was 1,094 units.
