There is a big and important news for vehicle owners living in Delhi. If you do not carry the Pollution Certificate (PUC) of your vehicle with you or it has expired, then your problems may increase. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has taken a very strict decision to control the increasing air pollution in the capital, under which the rules for buying oil at petrol pumps have completely changed.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday issued clear instructions that fuel will no longer be supplied at any petrol pump in Delhi without a valid PUC certificate. The government believes that smoke from vehicles is a major cause of pollution and this step will help in curbing polluting vehicles. The Chief Minister said that the Delhi government is committed to providing a clean and healthy environment to the people and this tough decision is the need of the hour.

The rule will apply to all types of fuel

This new rule is not limited to petrol or diesel vehicles only. Petrol pumps and gas agencies of Delhi have been instructed to supply petrol, diesel or CNG only if the pollution certificate of the vehicle is valid.

Certificate mandatory after one year of registration

As per the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, it is mandatory for every vehicle to have a valid PUC certificate after completion of one year of registration. Till now many people used to ignore it, but now without this paper the tank of your car will not be full. Petrol pumps have been asked to strictly follow this order and there is also a possibility of action being taken against negligent agencies.

Major action under GRAP rules

The Chief Minister said that this decision has been taken by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) under the guidelines of the revised GRAP. It is clearly stated in the rules of GRAP that to reduce pollution, strict adherence to PUC rules should be ensured.
