Delhi Preparations are being made to make many new rules to control pollution. In the country’s capital Delhi, companies (aggregators) providing app-based grocery and food delivery and bike-cab services will not be able to include vehicles running on petrol and diesel in their fleet from this year. Apart from this, from the year 2027, only electric auto-rickshaws will be allowed for new registration. These proposals have been made in the draft of the new EV policy released by the Delhi government.
What is proposed in the draft
“No conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle running solely on petrol or diesel will be included in the existing fleet of two-wheelers and light goods vehicles operated by aggregators and delivery service providers from January 1 this year,” the draft Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2026-2030 proposes. However, aggregators will be allowed to include BS-6 compliant two-wheelers in the fleet from December 31, 2026. This will happen by 2026, after which it will be mandatory for them to completely replace their fleet with electric vehicles.
You will get an incentive of up to Rs 50,000 on purchasing an electric auto.
In this policy, incentives have also been proposed for passenger electric three-wheelers including auto-rickshaws. It said that financial assistance of Rs 50,000 in the first year, Rs 40,000 in the second year and Rs 30,000 in the third year will be provided from the date of notification of the new policy to promote the adoption of electric vehicles. This incentive amount will be applicable on replacement of old CNG auto-rickshaws as well as new auto-rickshaws registered in Delhi.
Objective to reduce pollution level in the capital
These provisions focus on high-use vehicle categories such as two-wheelers, three-wheelers and goods vehicles, which contribute significantly to pollution due to extensive daily operation. It has also been made clear in the draft policy that other provisions of ‘Delhi Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Provider Scheme (2023)’ will remain in force. Focusing on aggregator fleets and auto-rickshaws, the policy aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles among high-use vehicles and reduce pollution levels in the capital.
