Indian badminton star Lakshya Sen finally ended his title drought this season. Lakshya, ranked 14th in the world ranking, won the title by defeating Jonathan Christie of Indonesia in straight games in the final of Hilo Open. He defeated Christie 21-17, 21-10 in the match played on Sunday. This is the seventh title of Lakshya’s career. Not only this, this is Lakshya Sen’s second Hilo Open title and he is the first Indian to do so.
Lakshya’s magic shown in Hilo Open
This victory is also special for Lakshya because his performance on the tour this season was full of ups and downs. After reaching the finals of the All England Championship, he had to face defeat in the first round eight times. In such a situation, winning the Hailo Open title has brought great relief for him. In the final, Lakshya played well from the beginning, although his rhythm deteriorated a bit at one point in the first game. After leading 18-10, he relaxed a bit and Christie scored consecutive points to take the score to 17-18. But Lakshya made a comeback in time and won the first game 21-17.
The Indian players did not show any laxity in the second game. He kept Christie under pressure with his sharp smashes, excellent movement at the net and accurate shots. The Indonesian player, ranked sixth in the world rankings, was seen struggling to find his rhythm throughout the match. Lakshya won the second game 21-10 and captured the title.
Lakshya’s title drought ends
In the semi-finals, Lakshya defeated Toma Junior Popov of France and made it to the finals. This is his second title win in Hilo Open. Earlier, he had won the title of this tournament in 2021 also. Lakshya had won his last title in the Australian Open last season. Now with this victory he has ended his long wait for the title. Before this, PV Sindhu also did wonders by winning the title of Hilo Open.
