The test match between India and Afghanistan is going to start from June 6. The match will be held in Mullanpur. Preparations for this have been completed. Meanwhile, the Test matches held from 2019 till now are usually held under the World Test Championship. There are only a few matches which are outside this. The match being played between India and Afghanistan will not be a part of the WTC. You have to understand why this is so. Also know that the win or loss of this match will not have any impact on the ICC World Test Championship points table.
ICC has included only 9 teams in the World Test Championship.
Matches are being played continuously under the ICC World Test Championship, but the India vs Afghanistan match will not be a part of it. Let us inform you that Afghanistan has got the status of Test Nation in the year 2017 itself, but ICC has not yet included it among the 9 teams which are part of the WTC. The reason for this is that the Afghanistan team is not playing as many Test matches in a year as it should. Not only Afghanistan, teams from Zimbabwe and Ireland are also not part of it. Although talks are going on to include them. It is possible that when the next cycle starts after the year 2027, they may be included in it.
There should be at least two match series under WTC
To be a part of WTC i.e. World Test Championship, there should be at least two Test match series between two countries, but only one match will be played here. Therefore, after the result of this match, there will be no impact on India’s health in the World Test Championship. This is just a bilateral match, nothing more than that. However, keep in mind that whatever performance the players of India and Afghanistan perform in this series, it will affect the ICC rankings. This means that after the match, the ICC rating of the players of both the teams will change and it is possible that the ranking may also be changed.
A test has already been played between India and Afghanistan
Afghanistan team has got Test status about 9 years ago. But even after this the team has not played many test matches till now. The team has played about 12 test matches. The teams of India and Afghanistan have come face to face once before in a Test. Then India had registered victory. After this the match will be played between the two. It remains to be seen how the team manages to perform.
