There is big news of relief and development for the people of Old Gurugram. The picture of the old city, which is struggling with jams, long journeys and limited connectivity, is about to change. A big step has been taken regarding the second phase of the Old Gurugram Metro route. Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has selected land for 9 metro stations to be built under the second phase. Along with this, land related information has been sought from Haryana Urban Development Authority (HSVP) for arranging entry and exit at every station.

Metro project will be completed in three phases

The Old Gurugram Metro project is being developed in three phases. In the first phase, metro line and stations will be built from Millennium City Center Metro Station to Sector-9. The tender for this phase has already been allotted and the work is going on at a fast pace. In the second phase, the metro will be extended from Sector-9 to DLF Cyber City, while in the third phase, a metro depot will be constructed in Sector-33.

These will be the 9 stations of the second phase

The areas which will be connected by metro in the second phase include Sector-7, Sector-4, Sector-5, Ashok Vihar, Sector-3, Bajgheda, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar and Sector-23A. The construction agency has installed three machines for piling and the work is being done at a fast pace between Millennium City Center and Bakhtawar Chowk.

Station will be built in the middle of the road, churning on land

According to GMRL officials, most of the metro stations will be built in the middle of the road, while the entry and exit points will be on the surrounding land. At some places this land is in green area, while at some places it is privately owned. If HSVP land is available, it will be made available free of cost, whereas for private land, a committee headed by the District Deputy Commissioner will decide on the purchase of land.

Metro network will also be connected to the railway station

A plan is also being made to connect Old Gurugram Metro from Sector-5 to Gurugram Railway Station. Two new stations are proposed on this approximately two kilometer long route, which will provide better connectivity between the metro and railways.

409 crore metro depot

An estimate of about Rs 409 crore has been prepared for the metro depot to be built in Sector-33. Tender will be issued soon for this depot to be built on approximately 45 acres.

Obstacles will also be removed

The legal and illegal constructions coming up in the metro construction from Hero Honda Chowk to Sector-101 are being measured. After this, the process of removing obstacles under the land purchase policy will begin.
