Amravati: Andhra Pradesh Police has arrested two people for spying for Pakistan. These also include a Navy employee. Most of the 18 people suspected in this case are associated with the Navy. Officials said that out of the total 18 suspects, 13 are Navy personnel who were allegedly involved in an espionage conspiracy that posed a threat to the country’s security.
Police arrested two people
According to an official statement issued by the Andhra Pradesh Police Department on Tuesday, the police arrested Pradeep Mukherjee, an employee of Visakhapatnam Navy Base, and Annam Sai Varaprasad, a contract driver working for Navy officials in Visakhapatnam. “Andhra Pradesh Counter Intelligence Cell had received concrete information about certain persons who were allegedly in direct contact with Pakistan Intelligence Operatives (PIOs) and were involved in an espionage conspiracy posing a threat to the national security of India,” the statement said.
Both were sent to jail
“After preliminary evidence of their role in this case, two suspects have been arrested and the remaining suspects are under further investigation,” it said. Pradeep Mukherjee was recently arrested from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He was produced in Vijayawada court and sent to judicial custody till October 14. He is currently lodged in Vijayawada district jail. Similarly, Annam Sai Varaprasad was also sent to judicial custody till October 14 and he is also lodged in the same jail.
Worked together with police of 10 states
The Counter Intelligence (CI) cell worked closely with police from 10 states to trace suspects who had direct contact with the PIOs. According to the police, Annam Sai Varaprasad and Pradeep Mukherjee had shared sensitive information with Pakistani operatives. CI Cell coordinated with 10 states under “Operation Firewall-2026” to investigate suspects involved in sharing sensitive and confidential information about defense installations and strategic locations. The statement said the suspects shared information about Visakhapatnam and other parts of the country through encrypted communication channels. The Police Intelligence Cell has seized electronic gadgets and investigation is ongoing in the case of the remaining suspects. (Input- PTI)
