The results of Tamil Nadu Assembly elections have been declared. TVK has emerged as the largest party in the state. After this, a meeting of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) was held on Tuesday. In this meeting, party supremo Vijay has been unanimously elected as the leader of the legislature party.

The party has also made its stand clear regarding the magical figures required to form the government and the support of MLAs. According to sources, in the context of the support of MLAs falling short for the structure of the government, it was said in the meeting that no compromise will be made with self-respect. That means the party will not extend its hand to any party for the support of the MLA. This entire process will be organic. That means whoever comes to talk to TVK, talks will be held with them. Sources also said that the party would have no objection in giving power to the parties supporting TVK. Senior leaders of the party will talk about the alliance.

staked claim to form government

Let us tell you that out of 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu, TVK has won 108 seats, which is 10 less than the majority. Vijay has written a letter to the Governor staking claim to form the government. In an e-mail sent by the party to the Governor, Vijay said that since TVK is the largest party, it should be invited to form the government. The party has also requested to be given a chance in the Assembly to prove its majority.

According to TVK sources, the party has sought two weeks’ time to prove majority in the House. An official said that in case no party gets a clear majority, the Governor will take further decisions only after consulting legal experts. Meanwhile, heavy police force has been deployed outside Vijay’s Panayyur residence. He has won from two seats – Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East and is likely to retain the Perambur seat, leaving one seat.
